A man wanted for murder in New York was taken into custody Monday evening by Lawrence Township police.
According to police, they received a phone call around 5:30 p.m. from detectives from Onondaga County, N.Y., saying they had been monitoring the financial transactions of a murder suspect and he had just made a purchase at a store along Route 879.
Police went to the store and found the suspect's car from a description given by New York authorities. Outside the vehicle, police identified Larry N. Frank, 49, 6 Pine St., Lot A, Phoenix, N.Y., and took him into custody without incident.
Officers found a loaded handgun inside the vehicle.
Police notified New York authorities that Frank was in custody and took him to the township police station. His vehicle was impounded.
Detectives from the Onondaga County Sheriff's office arrived in Clearfield and interviewed Frank who, according to police, confessed to killing a 53-year-old New York woman. Criminal homicide charges are pending.
Police received a warrant from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office and Frank was arraigned before District Judge Richard Ireland of Clearfield on a fugitive from justice charge. Frank is being held in the county jail without bail.
Township police are still investigating the firearm found in Frank's vehicle.
