DuBois School District buys security equipment

DuBOIS - The DuBois Area School District board of directors unanimously approved the purchase of security equipment and access control equipment for the high school and middle school from Select Security Inc. in the amount of $460,670 last week.
The total amount for the security system is to be paid from the capital fund.
The system was recommended by the junior and senior high school administration, IT department, and the school resource officers.
It includes: A separate network for surveillance cameras and a new access control system; a work station at both schools for easy monitoring of the cameras; as well as 101 new cameras at the high school and 81 new cameras at the middle school.
Also:
- The board approved the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield hospitalization, prescription, and stop loss rates for July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012. This reflects an overall increase of approximately one percent in rates from last year.
- The board also approved the Delta Dental Insurance policy renewal for the same length of time. There is no increase in rates from the previous year.
- The board appointed R. Edward Ferraro as solicitor for the district for the next year. There is no change in fees. Board member Bev Kurts voted against the approval.
- The board renewed its contract with Metz Culinary Management for a year at a price of $1.569 per meal.
- The board approved 12th grader Trey Gilmore and 11th grader Katelyn LaBue as student representatives to the board for 2011-12.
- The board approved payment on the construction bills for the Juniata Elementary School renovation project in the amount of $168,133.50. This amount is to be paid from the capital fund.
Thus far, completed work on the exterior part of the project includes: The prime contractor mobilization for the project is nearly complete; the new teacher's parking lot is nearly to subgrade; the new gym has 70 percent of its footings poured and the remaining was on schedule to be completed Friday; the new gymnasium foundation wall forms are being set and reinforced steel is being installed; the underground sanitary and stormwater piping is nearly complete at the building addition; the new sanitary line tie in is about 80 percent complete; and the new stormwater detention system is scheduled to start this week.
Work on the interior of the building includes: The new mechanical room slab has been poured and is having housekeeping pads set and prepping for hangers; electrical feeder conduits are being installed; the existing incinerator has demolition completed; and the ceiling and miscellaneous pipe fittings have been removed.
