Flatirons permit meeting starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Brockway
Tuesday, February 21, 2012
It's 6 p.m. for the start time of a public meeting scheduled for Wednesday in Brockway by the state Department of Environmental Protection.
That time was reported accurately in last week's initial announcement of the meeting, but was misstated as a later time in a news release from the office of state Sen. Joe Scarnati that was reprinted in Monday's edition.
The meeting, to be held at the junior/senior high school on Alexander Street, will focus on a proposal by Flatirons Resources to drill a Marcellus Shale well in the Brockway area.
Flatirons holds mineral rights to land that is also a part of the watershed for the Brockway Borough Municipal Authority in the Rattlesnake Creek watershed.
The first well was drilled and hydraulically fractured in 2011, and has been cited for damaging the aquifer from which drinking water is drawn.
The DEP is reviewing a second permit to Flatirons to drill, based on the technical merits of Flatirons' drilling plan, the agency said.
The state agency and the drilling company will speak, and a question-and-answer session is planned to follow.
