(Some portions of this obituary appeared in Sunday's edition.)
Kay L. Henning, 73, a Patton Road, Brockway, resident died Feb. 15, 2012, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
Born March 19, 1938, in Salamanca, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Kenneth A. and Olive L. Dunbar Velie Sr. of Little Valley, N.Y.
Kay survived polio when she was 11 and spent 11 months in an iron lung. Her horse flipped over on her at age 14 and she lost a kidney. At 18, she had a horrible car accident and spent six months in a coma. About 15 years ago, she had a large brain tumor removed which probably resulted from her many serious injuries. Kay also survived breast cancer, having one breast removed, and also spinal cancer recently.
She talked to most all of her family the day before she passed. Kay referred to her youngest brother William as "Tippy-Toes," even though he is now 67 years old, up until the day she died. Her brothers and family will miss her and remember the good times we had together. We all love and miss you. You will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved you. Love from your brothers, Allen and Bill.
Kay was a housewife. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and her grand kids.
She is survived by one son, Kent W. Kuhaneck and his wife, Rachael of Clarence; one daughter, Brenda Jean Williams and her husband, Eric of Brockway; and two brothers, Kenneth Allen Velie of Lancaster, N.Y., and William James Velie of Flagstaff, Ariz. Kay is also survived by nine grandchildren: William, Christie, Kayla, Robert, Prestan, Josh, Mike, Joe and Andrew; and one great-grandson whom she never got a chance to know in this life.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
All services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be made to Taylor Memorial Library in Brockway. Online condolences may be made at www.csfhinc.com.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home, Inc., of Brockway.
