Lady Lions' slide continues
Wednesday, February 1, 2012
OIL CITY - The Clarion-Limestone Lady Lions suffered a hard-luck loss to Venango Catholic as Taylor Moltz connected on a pair of free throws with two seconds left, giving the Lady Vikings a 44-42 victory last Friday night.
The Lady Lions (7-8 overall, 2-5 KSAC-North), who hosted Moniteau Wednesday night, ended January on a three-game losing streak. They lost seven of nine games in the month and will try to reverse that trend in February. After Wednesday, the Lady Lions visit Karns City Friday and host Clarion next Monday.
Against Venango Catholic last week, Kacy Lewis had tied the game for C-L with six seconds to play before Moltz was sent to the line.
Kiana Laugand led C-L with 20 points while Dannie Parsons chipped in with 10. Moltz, Lindsay Homan, and Allison Guth combined for 41 of the Lady Vikings total with 16, 15, and 10 points respectively.
Venango Catholic led 7-4 after one quarter and 16-14 at halftime. C-L closed the gap to 27-26 after three before a 17-16 Lady Vikings advantage in the fourth set the final.
In last week's other game:
WEDNESDAY, Jan. 25
East Forest 51, C-L 41
Last week at Marianville, foul trouble and poor shooting spelled doom for the Lady Lions as the Lady Bears came away with a 10-point win.
Kiana Laugand and Kacy Lewis, the top two scorers for C-L, spent time on the bench due to foul trouble and East Forest would take advantage.
A 16-0 run by East Forest after a 7-7 tie bolted the Lady Bears to a 23-7 lead. East Forest would lead 24-11 at halftime. A 12-8 advantage by C-L trimmed the lead to nine at 32-23 after three.
The Lady Lions would close to within seven at 34-27 early in the fourth, but would get no closer as East Forest finished the game with a 17-14 edge to set the final score.
Brooke Reynolds scored 10 points to lead C-L to a 32-11 victory in the junior varsity game. Alissa Burns and Abby Mellott each added seven points.
