Brookville Lady Raiders senior Paige Elkin celebrated a milestone on Senior Night, becoming the seventh player in team history to reach 1,000 points in a 59-48 win over visiting St. Marys. Elkin scored 20 points and was the first 1,000-pointer since Jen Buck did it during the 2003-04 season. Carlie Cook finished with 16 points. ... The Clarion-Limestone Lions used an 11-0 run to start the fourth quarter on their way to upsetting North Clarion, 66-60. C.J. Hesdon and Ryan Raybuck combined for 39 points as Hesdon scored 25 and Raybuck finished with 14. ... Seeded sixth, the Brookville Raiders wrestling team dropped its opening bout of the District 9 Class AA Dual Meet Tournament to third-seeded Smethport, 51-24. The Hubbers took advantage of four forfeits and four pins to rout the Raiders.

Dan Alderton scored 28 points to lead the Clarion-Limestone boys basketball team to an 86-77 win over Brookville. His scoring outburst got him to 986 career points as the Lions beat the Raiders for the first time in 15 years. J.J. Ferguson scored 17 points. For Brookville, Ben Daniels scored 26 points. ... The Brookville Lady Raiders held on to beat St. Marys, 60-53. Jonelle Benton led the way with 19 points while Jen Buck finished with 10 points. ... The Clarion-Limestone Lady Lions topped Brockway, 39-27. Arin Towse scored 10 points to lead C-L and helped limit Brockway's high-scoring Miranda Rhed to just 12 points, 10 under her average. Jessica Smith added 10 points for the Lady Lions. ... The Brookville wrestling team lost to Brockway for the second time this season, this time 31-24 in the District 9 Class AA Dual Meet Tournament semifinals. The Raiders opened the tournament with a 42-24 win over Johnsonburg. ... The Brookville swimming and diving team got a new coach and set two records this past week. Wayne McGonigal replaced Jason Bonnar, who resigned for personal reasons. Then, senior Richard Merz broke the school record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.91. Diver Katie Hynes broke the DuBois pool record with a score of 254.45.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Five pins propelled the Ridgway Elkers to a 34-26 win over the Brookville Area High School wrestling team. The loss dropped the Raiders, who were wrestling without starter Sam Downing, to 7-3. Shawn Galbreath's pin at 138 improved his record to 13-0 with 12 pins. Other winners for the Raiders were Matt Park (superior decision), Jeff Lindermuth (decision), Joe Frampton (major decision) and Larry Lingenfelter (decision). Greg Thrush and Scott Park wrestled to ties. ... In a sweep of visiting St. Marys, the Brookville swimming teams had defending District 9 girls diving champion Mindi Neal break her own record in the 1-meter diving competition by scoring 199.1 points. ... The Brookville Raiders basketball team dropped back-to-back games to East Brady and North Clarion, seriously damaging any Clarion County League title hopes. Against East Brady, the visiting Bulldogs successfuly played the stall game and beat the Raiders, 30-29. The Raiders failed to score in the fourth quarter, losing a five-point lead. Jeff Painter gave Brady the lead for good with a basket with 19 seconds remaining. The Raiders had a chance to win, but Chris Hoffman missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw situation with two seconds left on the clock. Against North Clarion, the Raiders dropped a 58-44 decision. ... The Brookville Lady Raiders routed East Brady, 65-35, as Phyllis Tonkin scored 24 points. Sharon Baker scored 13 points and made 12 rebounds. Dana Murdock scored nine points.
FIFTY YEARS AGO

Wrestling fans enjoyed three hours of action-packed excitement at the Brookville Area High School gymnasium Tuesday as the Raiders gave a good account of themselves against the defending district champion team from Curwensville, which left town with a 43-14 win. Barry Reddinger, Tom Songer, Gary Yeaney and Hugh Tillotson won for the Raiders, who led 14-9 before the Golden Tide won the final seven bouts to pull away. ... Reversing a 54-50 loss at Bradford in December, the Brookville Raiders basketball team upset the Owls at home with a 44-32 win. Dick Beck scored 20 points to push the Raiders past the Owls.
SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO
Brookville Republican, Thursday, February 11, 1937

Brookville high school scorers indulged in a field day last Friday night when Clearfield visited Brookville and was defeated, 42-22. Vern Stewart led the scoring barrage with 17 points and Eddie Battaglia finished with eight points. ... The basketball tournament this year in the YMCA will be held Feb. 25 to March 4. Last year's tournament was the best tournament in this part of the state, with 32 teams entered and the winner being the speedy Butler Y team. It is expected that as many or more teams will be entered in this year's tourney and invitations have been sent to all the first-class teams in this part of the state.
