BROOKVILLE — A Brookville resident is currently in a Pittsburgh hospital after an accident Tuesday afternoon.

John Park, along with a grandchild, was in his red pick-up truck in the parking lot next to Grace Lutheran Church on Franklin Street when the vehicle went backwards across the parking lot and hit a parked car belonging to James and Barb Emrick, of Brookville.

The parked car was unoccupied at the time. Both vehicles jumped the curbing along the parking lot and went down a slope into yard. Brookville Police Chief Vince Markle said a single guide wire saved the pickup truck from going further down the hillside by the single guide wire that angled down from the utility pole to the ground.

The vehicle that had been parked came to rest further down the hillside. Markle attributed the car not going any further down the embankment to the fact that it had been in park. Further down the embankment is a sidewalk and a little beyond that is the intersection of E. Main Street and Water Plant Road.

It is not known the cause of the accident. Markle says he has not had a chance to talk to Park yet. Park had been transported to Penn Highlands Brookville and then to a Pittsburgh hospital.

Brookville Volunteer Fire Company and Jefferson County EMS Ambulance assisted at the scene.
