Brenda Shumaker made history Tuesday in Jefferson County when she took her oath of office making her the county’s first female coroner. She replaces Bernie Snyder who retired. Standing beside the new coroner is her husband, Kenneth Burkett. Jacqueline “Sis” Mizerock also made her mark in the history book as the first woman to hold the office of District Judge. She will serve on the bench in Punxsutawney. Mizerock was unable to attend the ceremony at the Jefferson County Courthouse due to a recent surgery. Judge John H. Foradora administered her oath of office at a private ceremony.
