The Brookville Area Little League enters its 60th season Monday night when Little League and Minor League baseball and softball open the schedule at the Memorial Park complex. The league has 315 players signed up for the season, 198 boys and 117 girls. That’s a slight increase from last year’s total of 294. ... Using three pitchers and jumping out to an early lead, the Brookville Raiders baseball team bounced back from its first loss of the year last week with a 7-4 win at Moniteau. Chase Lyle, Jared Heschke and Ryan Zimmerman combined on a four-hitter. ... Steph Lutz had three hits with two doubles and drove in six runs in the Clarion-Limestone softball team’s 8-3 win over Redbank Valley. ... At the 18-team DeMans Team Sports Track and Field Invitational last Saturday, nine meet records were established. For Brookville, senior Courtney Newsome placed second in the 100-meter hurdles, fourth in the long jump and helped the 4x100 relay to a fourth-place finish as she joined up with Jessica and Alyssa Byerly, and Erica Drukenbrod.

Brookville Area School District received two bids for bleachers to be constructed at the football stadium. The bids totaled $112,987 and $129,445 for the 1,480-seat grandstand. The tongue and groove style deck grandstand will be erected on the west side of the field. The entire project, which includes lifting the press box three feet to accommodate the grandstand addition is expected to be around $140,000. … The Brookville Raiders opened their baseball season with a 11-3 rout of Titusville. Brad Kocher and Josh Shaffer combined to strike out 14 batters in a two-hitter that also included eight walks. Seven Raiders had at least one hit. … The Brookville Lady Raiders topped Clarion-Limestone in their track and field dual meet last Friday, ending C-L’s 37-meet winning streak. Jen Standest and Judy Croxton were triple-winners for the Lady Raiders. Charlotte Leadbetter won two events for the Lady Lions.

The Brookville Raiders baseball team dropped a 12-11 season-opening decision to Dayton at Memorial Park Tuesday afternoon. Dayton rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh inning to get the win. Ron Reitz led the Raiders with three hits while Wayne Kocher and Bob Barnett each had two hits. … John Stormer was the first bowler to roll a 700 series in the Industrial A League at Gateway Lanes recently. He rolled a 702 series which included games of 198, 280 and 224. He was bowling for the Coca-Cola team last Friday night. It was the third 700 season at Gateway Lanes this season. Quay Rhodes (714) and Reid Henry (705) also have 700s under their belt. … The Brookville Raiders golf team lost a 15-0 decision at Clearfield. Sophomore Bill Potts was the low scorer for the Raiders with an 80.
