EDINBORO — The Clarion University wrestling team heads to Saturday’s Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships with some familiar faces in the lineup.

Head coach Keith Ferraro’s Golden Eagles will have three former Brookville Raiders in the lineup, headed up by nationally-ranked Brock Zacherl at 141 with red-shirt freshman Taylor Ortz at 149 and freshman Gavin Park at 125.

While Zacherl and Ortz went into the season as the starters at their weights, Park is stepping in for starter Jake Gromacki at 125.

Park (4-4), the No. 2 man behind Gromacki, was third at last weekend’s Storm Open at Lake Erie College.

Ortz (8-3) is also making his PSAC Tourney debut.

“This will be a first PSAC appearance for Park and Ortz. I’m really excited to see how they handle the pressure of competition,” Ferraro said Tuesday.

Zacherl (10-0) is currently ranked No. 9 nationally by intermatwrestle.com. He missed last year’s tournament with an injury. As a red-shirt freshman, Zacherl won the 141-pound PSAC title two years ago.

“Brock is anxious to go to work at the PSACs after sitting out last year with an injury,” Ferraro said.

The rest of the Golden Eagles’ lineup has Roshaun Cooley (3-5) at 133, Port Allegany’s Mac Tanner (5-3) at 157, Max Wohlabaugh (5-5) at 165, Dom Rigous (6-5) at 174, Greg Bulsak (4-1) at 184, Dustin Conti (7-3) at 197 and Toby Cahill (6-7) at heavyweight.

“We’re looking forward to getting back on the mat this weekend. Our team goal is to make a jump upward in our conference,” Ferraro said. “This team is fully capable of doing that with a great effort.”

Last year, the Golden Eagles finished third out of 12 teams behind Edinboro and Lock Haven. Kane’s Evan DeLong won the 165-pound title and earned the Outstanding Wrestler award, but he won’t be in the lineup this weekend.

Rigous was second at 174 and Conti was sixth at 197.

Host Edinboro will be the favorites. The Fighting Scots are ranked No. 21 nationally in tournaments and No. 22 in dual meets by intermat.
