Brookville sending 26 to

Area 5 Tournament

HYDE — The Brookville junior wrestling program sends another big group to this Saturday’s Area 5 Tournament at Clearfield Area High School.

Some 26 wrestlers are entered in the various weight classes and age divisions with action starting at 8:30 a.m. and continues through at least the late afternoon. Last Tuesday, they qualified for the Area 5 Tournament with a top-four finish at the Section 1 Tournament also held in Clearfield.

Wrestlers finishing in the top two in each weight class in the 8-and-under, 9-10 and 11-12 divisions — a 6-and-under tournament will be held but no one advances to states — qualify for the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Championships held March 23-24 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre.

Area 5 consists of the PIAA District 9 schools along with Marion Center and West Branch.

This year, Area 5 has 15 girls — three of them from Brookville — competing in the first all-girls’ tournament that sends qualifiers in the same age divisions to states also held in Wilkes-Barre the same weekend.
