Residents voice concerns about Piney project

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

CLARION - A group of more than a dozen Monroe Township residents turned out at a Clarion County Planning Commission meeting last week to raise concerns about a plan to construct a natural gas well water treatment plant along Piney Dam Road, which they said will bring even more large trucks to a community already suffering from truck-related problems.
The Jan. 18 meeting included a "for information purposes only" presentation from representatives of Clarion Altela Environmental Services, which intends to build a facility in Piney Township to treat water from Marcellus Shale gas wells. The plant will be constructed on a 20-acre section of the Piney Creek Power Plant property off Piney Dam Road.
Clarion Altela is a partnership between the power plant's owners and the New Mexico-based Altela firm, which currently operates a similar facility in Williamsport.
