Area power plant closing

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

REESEDALE - Approximately 60 employees will be impacted by last week's announcement that FirstEnergy Corp. will close its coal-fired power plant at Reesedale, Armstrong County, later this year.
On Thursday, the electricity producer announced that six power plants in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland will be closed by Sept. 1. The company said the plants are being closed due mainly to new federally mandated pollution control requirements that are going into effect.
Four plants are being closed in Ohio, along with the Reesedale plant along the Allegheny River, and one plant in Maryland.
