NB, firefighters to talk new building

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

NEW BETHLEHEM - New Bethlehem Borough Council welcomed a new member to its fold, and discussed ideas for a new "municipal center" building for the town, during a special meeting Monday night.
Jenn Murray was named to the vacant council seat, which was previously held by Jim Merwin, who resigned at the start of the year.
Murray will serve out the remaining two years on the term.
"I'm glad somebody stepped up," councilman Terry Mateer said, noting that he wished more residents would consider running for office to provide more choices for voters.
Discussion at the special meeting then turned to a previous proposal by council president Sandy Mateer, who said late last year that the community should look into creating a "municipal center" to house borough offices, along with those for the local fire company, chamber of commerce and municipal authority.
