NEW BETHLEHEM - Hanging onto a lead at the end of three quarters, the Redbank Valley Bulldogs surrendered 17 points in the final 11 minutes of play as the Brockway Rovers rallied for a 24-10 victory in the first round of the District 9 Class A playoffs on Friday.
Scoring a safety for the only two points of a defensive first half, Redbank saw its 2-0 lead disappear as Brockway grabbed the lead on the second play of the third quarter with the return of an interception for a touchdown. A TD run by Mark Strothers put the Bulldogs back in front and Redbank went into the fourth period with a slim 10-7 lead. But the Rovers, who didn't attempt a pass in the second half, got their running game in gear, surging past the Bulldogs with a pair of touchdowns and a field goal to end Redbank's season while Brockway remains alive and will advance to face Port Allegany in the district semifinals.
