RV crowns three champs, wins wrestling tournament

HERMITAGE - Crowning three individual champions with two other wrestlers placing in the top four of their weight classes, the Redbank Valley Bulldogs opened the 2011-12 season by winning the team championship at the Hickory Invitational at Hickory High School on Friday and Saturday.
Willis Gruver, Garrett Hildebrand and Cole Shirey claimed individual titles for Redbank as the Bulldogs eked out a narrow victory in the 17-team tournament. Racking up 260 points in the two-day tournament, Redbank nosed out Hempfield for the top spot by a point-and-a-half as the second-place finisher collected 258.5. Kane was third in the final standings with 251, Union City took fourth with 227.5 and Smethport rounded out the top five teams.
