Damsels open season with tournament crown

MARIENVILLE - Winning a pair of games by different methods, the Union Golden Damsels opened the 2011-12 season by winning the East Forest tournament on Friday and Saturday.
In a first-round game on Friday, Union jumped in front in the first quarter and steadily pulled away from the North Clarion She-Wolves for a 50-32 win its season opener. In the championship contest, the Damsels fell behind in the opening period, clipped away at their deficit to tie the game after three periods and completed the comeback in the fourth quarter for a 39-36 win over the East Forest Lady Bears to claim the tournament title.
