Lions nip Knights for KSAC championship

[L-V photo by Ron Willison] SANDWICHED BETWEEN A PAIR of defenders, UnionÕs Mikey Harris (25) draws the attention of Clarion-LimestoneÕs Tyler Stitt (41) and Adam Mellott (40) and was fouled by Stitt while getting off a shot under the basket. Harris converted both free throws to pull Union to within three at 11-8 with 28 seconds left in the first quarter of SaturdayÕs KSAC championship game.
CLARION - A great second quarter propelled Union to a 12-point lead at the half but the Golden Knights came up about a minute short of protecting that lead as the Clarion-Limestone Lions rallied in the second half for a 56-54 victory in the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference championship basketball game at Clarion High School on Saturday.
Trailing by three at the end of the first period, Union jumped in front early in the frame and then while holding Clarion-Limestone scoreless for nearly three minutes, poured in 13 straight points and opened up a 13-point advantage with just under three minutes remaining in the first half. The remainder of the quarter was played nearly even and the Knights were still up by 12, 32-20, at the intermission.
