Best of Show

DuBois Central Catholic 7th grader Candace Andres was awarded the ‘Best of Show’ Gold Medallion at the school’s annual 7th Grade Science Fair for receiving the highest number of points from the judges following her presentation.

DuBois Central Catholic’s 7th grade held its annual Science Fair recently in the school’s gymnasium. Each student prepared a fifteen-minute presentation of a scientific investigation. The students were judged on how well they applied the Five Steps of the Scientific Method.

Best of Show medallions are presented to the projects receiving the highest number of points. Best of Show First prize Gold Medallion was presented to Candace Andres for her project, “How does caffeine affect plant growth?” Second Place Silver medallion was presented to Brady Snyder for his project,” What are the best processes for etching metal.” Third Place Bronze Best of Show medallions were presented to Andrew Green for his project, “Which juice tested has the most Vitamin C?,” and Melia Miskavich for her project, “What are the factors involved in Bath Bomb Science?”

Seventh grade projects receiving First Awards were done by Candace Andres, Brady Snyder, Melia Miskavich, Andrew Green, Jeremiah Mondi, Elaina Giles, Julia Werner, Aiden Engle, Mattue Volpe, Cece Blasdell, Tyler Baird, Kourtney Zatsick, Haley Semancik, Alex Rake, Kayley Risser, and Raegan Porter.

Seventh grade projects receiving Second Awards were done by Lexi Shermer, Addison Yanek, Estelle Ferrari, Lydia Morgan, Jesse Frank, Sara Boland, Nate Harris, Connor Siple, Barak Clouser, Alma Blakeslee, Braylee Lukehart, Nathan Irwin, Candace Suhoney, Bruce Hartzfeld, and Brent Hollenbaugh.

Judges for this year’s Science fair were the following: Bernie Pitrone, retired Pharmacist; Wendy States, Pharmacist; Megan Burley Hoover, Pharmacist; Chris Felix, Resource Enrichment Instructor, DCC; Mandi Palumbo, Pharmacist; Larry LaBenne, Pharmacist; Kelly Stringer, Science, St. Joseph’s University; Debora Kruise, Director of Admissions & Marketing, DCC; Ron Chollock, retired Brockway Glass; and Dr. Amy Way, Lock Haven University, Clearfield Campus.

Central Catholic students assisting were Jennelle Adams, Alyssa Bittner, Logan Clancy, Anthony Kness, Lilian Lee, Makenzie Manning, Justin Miknis, Egan Peck, Gabrielle Sabatose, Garrett Prosper, Ashley Wruble, Brandon Walker, Holly Deemer, Paris Farley, and Josh Solnosky. Renee Gressler, Middle School Science instructor, helped prepare the students. Coordinator of the Science Fair and Floor Manager was Donna Chollock, Science Department Chairperson.
