DuBOIS — As another season of Lent begins, so too does the annual Lenten Evening Prayer Series at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 123 S. State St. DuBois, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18.
Open to all denominations, Evening Prayer is a time of reflection with a Scripture reading, short inspirational talk and music. Lent is the ideal time for this reflection as it is a time of preparation for Easter, according to the Rev. Msgr. Richard Siefer, pastor of St. Catherine and St. Michael the Archangel Church, both in DuBois.
The first speaker will be the Rev. Msgr. Edward Lohse, J.C.D., Episcopal Vicar for Canonical Services of the Diocese of Erie. He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Erie in 1989. Following his ordination, he served as a parochial vicar, high school faculty member and campus minister before returning to Gannon to serve as university chaplain from 1997-99, while also serving as diocesan vocation director. In 2000, he departed for Rome to study for a license in canon law, which he completed, summa cum laude, from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, in 2002. He returned to the diocese to serve in administration, as vice chancellor and then chancellor, as well as the diocesan promoter of justice. In addition, he resumed his position as diocesan vocation director.
In 2010, Lohse was called to Rome to assist at the Holy See as an official of the s Congregation for the Clergy. While in Rome, he also served as an adjunct faculty member of the Pontifical North American College and continued his studies, recently earning a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University.
Monsignor concluded his service to the Holy See in December of 2015, and is now working once again in diocesan administration in the Diocese of Erie, currently serving as episcopal vicar for canonical services. He was named a Chaplain to His Holiness by Pope Francis in December 2015. He has been a member of the Canon Law Society of America since 2002, and served as a member of the Saint Vincent Seminary Board of Regents from 2003 to 2010.
