ST. MARYS — The board of directors of the Elk County Community Foundation announced a new scholarship fund established by the St. Marys Legion Auxiliary to recognize and create awareness among youth of what veterans have done for our country, and to honor both past and present veterans. The scholarship will be open to graduating seniors who are residents of St. Marys school district.

The auxiliary created the scholarship to encourage youth to discover veterans within their family and their community and to learn about their service. Along with other criteria, students must complete an essay on a person they know who is a veteran and how they have influenced their life. The St. Marys Legion Auxiliary Scholarship will be administered by the Community Foundation. A complete list of the 89 scholarships for St. Marys area students administered by the foundation is available on their website at
