LOCK HAVEN — U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson recently presented Lock Haven University student, Sarah Yarger, of West Decatur, with the Congressional Award Medal for achievements in her community.

Yarger was awarded the Congressional Award Bronze Medal for her achievement of personal goals, public service to her community and exploration of nature. She aimed to strengthen her knee through practicing yoga and improved her mile time from 11:22 minutes to 10 minutes. She volunteered as assistant Scout manager with Boy Scout Troop 44, where she organized activities, attended meetings and local outings and taught advancement courses. For her personal development goals, she has maintained a part-time job at the Stevenson Library while attending the university. Yarger also explored Ricketts Glenn State Park where she learned more about the environment and foliage.

The Congressional Award Foundation is a partnership created by Congress to promote and recognize service, initiative and achievement in America’s youth. Participants, ages 14 to 23, earn the award by setting and achieving goals in the four program areas – voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/exploration.
