BENEZETTE — Last week the Steve Rotfeld Production Company (SRP) was in Elk County to film an episode of the adventure television series “Wild About Animals,” focusing on the Pennsylvania elk herd.
The morning began with a report of a bull elk located in Scattertown with a swing entangled in his antlers. Pennsylvania Game Commission personnel tranquilized the elk, removed the tangled swing and attached a radio collar around his neck to allow the PGC to monitor the movements and behavior of the elk herd. This chance happening was all able to be recorded for the television show.
Originally the production company wanted to schedule a day to come to Benezette to spend a day with renown elk photographer and PA Wilds artisan Paul Staniszewski of Sykesville.
“The first thing I said to them was ‘what if we don’t see any elk,’” Staniszewski said.
