DuBOIS – Personnel items took up a considerable part of the agenda at the DuBois Area School Board meeting last week.

During its regular meeting, the board approved several resignations and hirings.

Resignations

The board approved the resignation of Holly Stonebraker, paraprofessional –bus aide, effective Aug. 9.

Also, the board approved the resignation of Sherri Divins, food service worker/food service worker (breakfast program), effective Sept. 11.

The board OK’d the resignation of Curtis Johnson, MIS technician, Jeff Tech Co-op, effective Sept. 21.

In addition, the board approved the resignation of Jeffrey Rivera from the following extra-duty positions for the 2017 summer band program, effective immediately: percussion instructor (summer band) and percussion instructor (full season).

Hirings

The board approved the list of professional and classified substitutes.

The board approved hiring Antony Monella as a temporary part-time special education instructor at Pentz Run (after school, up to four hours per week) for the 2017-2018 school year, on an as-needed basis, as long as there is a special education population of students residing at Pentz Run needing special education services.

Upon the recommendation of the DuBois Area School District’s Induction Council, the board approved hiring Eric Coffey as a mentor teacher for the 2017-2018 school year, as per contract.

The board approved hiring Marian Douthit as custodial coordinator at the DuBois Area Senior High School effective Oct. 2, as per contract.

Upon the recommendation of William Ferko II, special education director, the board approved hiring Peggy Schweiger as a temporary paraprofessional – child specific aide (up to 1,080 hours), on an as-needed basis, for the 2017-2018 school year, with reimbursement by Brockway Area School District.

Also upon the recommendation of Ferko, the board approved hiring Rebecca McClure as a paraprofessional – bus aide (up to 1,080 hours per year) effective on or after Oct. 2.

Upon the recommendation of Chuck Ferra, interim athletic director/school & community relations director, and Brian Weible, DuBois Area Senior High School principal, the board approved hiring the following individuals for the extra-duty positions for interscholastic winter sports for the 2017-2018 school year, as per contract: (boys’ basketball) Tanner Gooden, junior high coach (ninth) and Justin Marshall, junior high coach (seventh); (wrestling) Edward Scott/Brian O’Korn, varsity assistant (split 50/50) and Bryce Swauger, junior high assistant (split 50/50 with Andrew Edinger); and (swimming/diving) Michael Gressler, head coach, and Leanne Fuller, varsity assistant.

Also upon the recommendation of Ferra and Weible, the board approved hiring the following individuals for the extra-duty positions for interscholastic spring sports for the 2017-2018 school year, as per contract: (baseball) Todd Stiner, head coach; (softball) Dennis Nosker, head coach; (track – boys) Brian Clinger, head coach, Bradley Sweet, varsity assistant, and Greg Posteraro, varsity assistant; (track –girls) Scott Sullivan, head coach, Justin Marshall, varsity assistant, Robert Bateman, varsity assistant; and (track – seventh and eighth) Shawn Deemer, coordinator, and Jason Shilala, assistant.

In addition, upon the recommendation of Ferra and Weible, the board approved the following individuals as volunteers for the 2017-2018 athletic season: Lara Allman, gymnastics, Ben Fordoski, varsity wrestling, T. J. Stanton, varsity wrestling and Shawn McCleary, junior high wrestling.

The board approved Gretchen Pennington as a volunteer for middle school band for the 2017-2018 school year.
