BENEZETTE — Elk Expo organizers are once again seeking photos and artwork to be featured on a decorative patch for this year’s event. The winning submission will be determined by a public vote on the expo’s Facebook page.
Elk images may be submitted online for the contest until the end of the month, and votes may be cast between April 6-13.
Carla Wehler, Operations Manager for the Keystone Elk Country Alliance, said the expo’s organizers have for several years selected the patch’s design in this way.
“It’s kind of fun for us because it allows people to share what they think is a great photo of elk country,” Wehler said.
Held each year at the Elk County Visitors Center in Benezette, the Pennsylvania Great Outdoors Elk Expo heralds the onset of Pennsylvania’s elk viewing season. This year’s expo, the 18th, will be held the weekend of August 18.
The photo contest, Wehler said, generally nets between 80-150 submissions each year. Organizers are looking for high resolution images, she said, though professional-grade equipment is not required to enter.
“We’ve had a lot of instances were someone just happened to be in the right place at the right time and got a great photo,” she said.
In addition to having their art immortalized in fabric, contest winners also receive a framed copy of their work. Photos not chosen for the patch, Wehler said, could still wind up being used for different promotional efforts by the expo’s organizers.
