WEEDVILLE — A Westmoreland County man is confined in the Elk County Jail after he allegedly threatened to assault his girlfriend with a knife and damaged her belongings March 21.

Leroy William Thorpe III, 19, of Avonmorn, has been charged with simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief.

According to Ridgway State Police, they received reports of a domestic incident between Thorpe and and his Elk County girlfriend at a Plum Street residence in Jay Township that morning.

The victim told police she was involved in an argument with Thorpe, which started in her baby’s bedroom. He threw a changing table at her and began breaking her belongings, before breaking the crib and pulling the bedroom door off the hinges. The argument continued into the kitchen, where Thorpe allegedly grabbed her father’s hunting knife and threw it at the kitchen cabinet next to her head.

When the victim told Thorpe to leave, he grabbed another knife, and before fleeing the residence, “stabbed the siding” of her house and threatened to “beat her.”

Thorpe was detained shortly after, when police arrived on scene, and reportedly admitted to breaking items inside the victim’s house, and “stabbing the siding” of her house.

Officers saw a 10-inch-long hunting knife on the kitchen counter, which was placed into evidence in Ridgway, according to the affidavit.

Unable to post $5,000 bail, Thorpe is confined in Elk County Jail following his bail hearing April 9, court documents say. His preliminary hearing will be May 6 at 3 p.m. at the office of District Judge Mark Jacob of St. Marys.
