City Classic Games planning begins

DuBOIS — Planning for the third annual DuBois “City Classic Games” — to be held Saturday, May 5 — has started.

“We’re excited for another year. We are looking forward to spring and another baseball and softball City Classic Games,” said city Manager John “Herm” Suplizio.

At 3 p.m. at Showers Field, the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals will take on the DuBois Beavers.

At 7 p.m. at the DuBois City Park’s new Challenger Field, a softball game will be played between the DuBois Central Catholic Cardinals and the DuBois Area High School.

The game between the two area rival schools will not be the only entertainment provided that evening. Details are still being discussed, according to Suplizio.

“We are just getting started in the planning phase. We have a new softball field to play on so we are excited about that,” Suplizio said.

More than 1,000 people attended last year’s event, Suplizio said.

DCC’s Headmaster Gretchen Caruso, currently in the middle of her first year in the position, said she is excited to be a part of the planning.

“I like any time that the two schools can get together because we are all part of the same community,” Caruso said. “I’m really proud of DuBois Central Catholic, and I’m very proud of the community that I’ve been born and raised in, so I think it’s not only a celebration of our schools but a celebration for the whole community to come out and just appreciate what we have.”

DuBois Area High School Principal Brian Weible and Athletic Director Chuck Ferra said the district is looking forward to being involved in something that brings the community and the schools together.
