DuBOIS — The sale of the former Penfield Elementary School building is now in the hands of the judge in Clearfield County.

A hearing has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, in Courtroom No. 2 in the Court of Common Pleas of Clearfield County Courthouse, Clearfield, for the sale of the former Penfield school building.

At its Oct. 26 meeting, the DuBois Area School Board approved and ratified the sale agreement for the former Penfield School building located in Huston Township. The buyer is listed as David F. Leeland, 1711 Hampden Boulevard in Reading.

The appraised value of the property is listed at $100,000.

On April 4, the board decided to permanently close three of its seven elementary schools – Penfield, Luthersburg and Sykesville – because of low enrollment and financial instability.

With the closings, effective for the 2017-18 school year, the district integrated Penfield students between Oklahoma and Juniata elementary schools in DuBois, Sykesville students into C.G. Johnson in Reynoldsville and Luthersburg into Wasson Elementary in DuBois.
