JOHNSONBURG — A Ridgway man is facing charges after he allegedly struck his girlfriend in the eye during an argument.

Michael James Nagle, 42, of Ridgway, is charged with simple assault and harassment, according to a criminal complaint filed at Magisterial District Judge James Martin’s office June 9.

Johnsonburg Borough Police were dispatched to 205 E. Ave. June 8 for reports of a domestic assault. Upon arrival, police reportedly noticed a woman standing on the sidewalk with her belongings on the ground beside her. The woman had a swollen, red right eye, and told police she lived with her boyfriend, Nagle, at his residence. The couple was arguing in his Jeep on the way to her friend’s house, when he allegedly punched her in the right eye, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

As she was getting out of the vehicle, Nagle allegedly sped off, causing her to fall onto the roadway. The incident was reportedly witnessed by two neighbors, who confirmed these actions, according to the affidavit of probable cause. Ridgway-based police took Nagle into custody at his residence, who said the fight was mutual.

Nagle’s preliminary hearing was continued and will be held July 22 at Martin’s office. Bail was set at $5,000.
