The Down to Earth Garden Club meets the fourth Thursday of every month. Time: 7:00 P.M. Place: Conference Room, Smeal Building, Penn State Campus The Down to Earth Garden Club functions as a forum for local gardeners to swap plants, exchange ideas, and discuss gardening techniques.
We are also a community service organization, maintaining the beds on the Walkway including the Butterfly Bed, the DuBois Public Library, the City Building, the 2 Embankment Beds, the embankment flowers, the Butterfly Bed at Parker Dam and the Brady Street Parking Lot Bed. Club members are also involved with plantings at St. Michaels Terrace for the residents and at DuBois Village.
The Club was off the block in the spring of 2005 with the renovation of the Embankment Bed-East. This is the most formal of our beds and the design concept was originally based on the successive blooming of perennials, as well as leaf color and texture. An attempt was made to retain that formal look in the renovation while refreshing the original plan.
This year the group is working with some innovative designs for container planting. These experiments in color will be showing up at the Brady St. Lot and and at the Library. We will also be expanding the plantings at the City Building.
Look for our plantings and feel free to contact us with any input. We welcome suggestions, members, plants, advice and contributions of just about any sort. Happy Gardening! Come join us!
