MORRISDALE - A juvenile with a lighter caught a mattress on fire and caused a Morris Township home to burn Sunday, Clearfield-based state police said.
A total of four juveniles - three of which were home at the time - lived in the home with adults James D. Vaux and Jilynn R. Salter at 3678 Morrisdale-Allport Highway, Morris Township. The home is owned by Larry E. Cowder of Morrisdale.
Police said the juvenile caught the mattress on fire at 8 a.m. Sunday and attempted to throw it out a window, but was unsuccessful.
The Morrisdale Fire Company was able to contain the fire to the second floor and neighboring residences were not involved.
Damage is estimated at $30,000.
