In the season opener April 2, DuBois' Leah Wallock and Clearfield's Mandy Rowles were locked in a pitchers' duel until the Lady Beavers broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning to take the game, 8-0.
Thursday afternoon was more of the same as Wallock and Rowles opposed each other on the mound and, again, DuBois used another big inning, scoring six times in the seventh, for an 8-1 win over the Lady Bisons.
"Clearfield is a very good team and we know we have to be patient," DuBois head coach Shawn Deemer said. "It seems like it takes about the third or fourth time through the lineup against Mandy to make some good contact, but we were able to today and had some nice hits."
The victory extends DuBois' winning streak to 14 games and the Lady Beavers finished the regular season with a record of 17-1.
Wallock limited Clearfield to three hits and one walk while striking out 12 over seven innings of work.
"It was nice to see Leah finish the regular season the way she did," Deemer said. "(Alanna) Luzier hit a nice shot, but it didn't bother us and we were able to refocus."
Kirsten Wilcox was 3-for-4 with a triple and Alysha Lange added two hits for DuBois, while Kristine Foltz and Meghan Brown drove in two runs each.
Rowles shut down DuBois through six innings, allowing two unearned runs on five hits with no walks.
However, the Lady Beavers found their groove in the seventh, recording six runs on six hits against Rowles.
Pinch-hitter Lindsay Obresmski walked to lead off the seventh for DuBois and back-to-back singles by Carly Wallock and Lange loaded the bases.
After Wilcox grounded into a fielder's choice, Foltz's two-run single put DuBois up 4-1.
Foltz's hit was the first our four consecutive hits for the Lady Beavers with runners in scoring position.
Lorianne Barbey continued the inning for DuBois with a RBI double to left field to bring in Wilcox. Wallock plated another run with a base hit and Brown drove in Barbey and Wallock with a single to center, giving DuBois an 8-1 lead.
Clearfield's Julie Colesar walked in the bottom half of the inning, but Wallock retired the next three hitters to seal the win for DuBois.
"They were trying to wear Leah out and get her pitch count up, but she was able to fight through it," Deemer said.
Wallock threw 99 pitches in the game with 69 strikes.
Rowles ended the game allowing eight runs, six earned, on 11 hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
Kenzie McGovern had two hits for Clearfield and Alanna Luzier led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to left field, cutting DuBois' lead in half, 2-1.
DuBois scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to break the scoreless tie.
Brittany Sayers reached on an error and Vanessa Jacobson followed with a sacrifice bunt, but Luzier was unable to squeeze the throw at first base.
Lange scored Sayers with a sacrifice fly to center and Wilcox tripled home Jacobson.
DuBois will now be idle for over a week while it awaits to play the District 10 champion in the District 9-10 subregional game at 1 p.m. on Memorial Day.
The Lady Beavers will use the extended layoff to rest up and prepare for the post season.
"It's hard to keep the girls focused for that long, but it is nice to have so many experienced girls playing, so it shouldn't be a major factor for us," Deemer said. "This is our fourth year that we have had a long layoff. It is nice to be able to give them a physical and mental break for the game, but we will be ready when we take the field again."
