Campman ran for 121 yards and three touchdowns in the first two quarters to help Clearfield lead 24-7 at the break despite Brashear jumping out to a quick 7-0 advantage on two long plays on its first possession.
Campman ended the night with 30 carries for a game-high 183 yards and completed 5 of 6 passes for 47 yards as he and his teammates notched the school's first win over a City League foe.
"It feels great," Campman said. "This is the first time we've ever beaten a City League team. I came down here a couple years ago as an eighth grader and watched us lose 12-9 (to Perry in '04). I felt bad for them losing that game, and I just wanted to get this win for our school and our program.
"We knew we had to come out early and get something going. They are a good team and have a lot of skill players, but I knew coming in that our line could match up with them. We overpowered them on the line a little bit."
That strong line play allowed Clearfield to outrush the Bulls 254-89.
But in the end, the game came down to a 26-yard field goal by Clearfield's Parker Herrington with 47 seconds left in the second quarter and a forced fumble by Bison sophomore Derek Danver late in the fourth.
Herrington's field goal proved to be the winning points after Brashear got its spread offense passing game going in the second half, particularly in the fourth quarter. Bulls QB Henri Chatman completed 9 of 10 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull Brashear within three points at 24-21 with 4:27 left in the game. Chatman was 18 of 25 for 226 yards, two TDs and one interception on the night.
Brashear forced a quick punt following Chatman's second TD pass and got the ball back with 2:36 left, but Danver's key defensive play all but ended Brashear's comeback hopes.
Chatman rolled out to his right looking to throw on first down, but Danver ran down the Bull from behind and chopped the football out of Chatman's hands just before he threw. Bison senior Brandon Sass jumped on the loose ball at the Bulls' 40. Danver and Sass each enjoyed strong defensive nights with a sack each, while Bison Kruise Kerr had two sacks. Nick Redden also made several plays in the Brashear backfield.
"I was coming from the other side, and I thought he was going to throw it," Danver said. "I saw he didn't throw it, so I just threw my hand up and hit the ball. We knew if we stopped them we'd have the win, so we dug down deep and got it."
Clearfield's Isiah Morgan then picked a huge first down with a six-yard run on a third-and-three play that allowed Campman to take two kneel downs to end the game, setting up a matchup with top-ranked Erie Strong Vincent this, who blanked Cathedral Prep, 28-0, Friday night.
Brashear came out of the gate fast as Chatman hit Eric Lynch for 43 yards on the second play of the game. Morgan appeared to be in position to pick off the pass, but Lynch outjumped Morgan and took the ball down to the Bisons' 24. James Reed ripped off a 24-yard TD run on the ensuing play and Tony Burke's extra point gave the Bulls a 7-0 lead 1:05 into the game.
Clearfield picked up a first down in its first possession before being forced to punt. Janocko called for the fake. Sass tried to hit fullback Josh Rippey on a pass but a Brashear player leveled Rippey, knocking the ball into the air where it was intercepted at the Bisons' 32.
Clearfield's defense then came up with a big defensive stop, thwarting a fake punt try by the Bulls. Campman ripped off an 11-yard run on the next play, but the Bisons quickly faced a fourth-and-inches at their 45. Janocko decided to go for it and Campman took the snap from under center and pushed the pile forward for the first down.
However, Campman wasn't done on the play as he spun out of the pile to the left and outran the Bulls' defense for a 55-yard touchdown. Herrington's PAT tied things at 7-7.
Brashear's Manasseh Garner ripped off a big run on the Bulls next offensive play, but Clearfield forced a punt and got the ball back at its own 21. The Bisons promptly went on a 10-play, 79-yard scoring drive.
Campman got the drive started with a 14-yard pass to younger brother Trey Campman, while Morgan followed with a 29-yard rumble that gave Clearfield the ball at the Bulls' 36. Campman then took over the drive with five carries for 34 yards, including a two-yard score to cap things.
Brashear moved the ball on its next possession thanks to a 10-yard run by Bruce Patterson and a pass interference call on the Bisons that gave the Bulls the ball at the Bisons' 35. Clearfield held Patterson, a 1,000-yard rusher, to four yards on six carries. Clearfield's defense then came up with two big plays - a 10-yard sack by Redden and a Trey Campman interception. Campman picked off Chatman's pass at his own 35 and returned it to the Bulls' 19.
Campman found the end zone three plays later for his third TD on an 11-yard run on a quarterback draw. Herrington's kick made it 21-7 with 4:57 left in the first half.
Clearfield's defense forced a three-and-out and gave its offense great field position following a bad snap on the punt attempt. Rippey tackled Lynch, the punter, at the Bulls' 34.
Morgan broke off a 20-yard run on the ensuing play and the Bisons got as close as the Bulls' 5 before a penalty pushed the Bisons back five yards on another fourth-and-inches. Janocko decided on a field goal attempt, and Herrington was true from 26 yards out on his first attempt of the season to give Clearfield a 24-7 lead with 47 ticks left in the first half. Morgan had 72 yards on 12 carries in the game.
Clearfield outgained Brashear 213-114 in the first half.
The teams traded possessions in third quarter before Brashear got its passing game going in the fourth quarter.
Chatman and his receivers started to find holes in the Bisons secondary in the final quarter and put together scoring drives of 80 and 87 yards with most of the yardage coming through the air.
Bull Larue Benton capped the first touchdown drive with a leaping 18-yard TD grab near the back line of the end zone, while Chatman hit Garner on a 22-yard strike to punctuate the second scoring drive. Burke made both PATs to make the score 24-21 with 4:27 to play. Garner had six catches for 67 yards in the game.
Brashear turned the tables on Clearfield in the second half, outgaining the Bisons 201-88 to hold a slim 315-301 advantage in the game.
However, that's as close as the Brashear got as Danver's forced fumble on the Bulls next series sealed Clearfield's win.
"It was huge. Huge. It was a game-winner," Janocko said of Danver's play. "Derek Danver made a game-winner, there's no question about it.
"I think the big play (of the game) was the quarterback sneak (in first quarter)," Janocko said. "Jarrin broke that off for a touchdown, and I think that got some momentum back for us. We were a little bit on our heels there at the beginning of the game. We knew they had speed, and they came out and put us on our heels. Once we regained our composure and got that big play, we were back in the game.
"We kind of broke through the ice (against the City League) with this win. We had some blowouts (losses), but we talked about that with the kids this week. We needed this team to be the one to break through."
