DuBois, Clearfield swimmers split

The DuBois Area High School swim team picked up its first victory in recent years as the Lady Beavers captured a 98-88 win over Clearfield Monday night.
Clearfield and DuBois split the 12 events in the girls' meet, but the Lady Beavers got off to a good start by winning the first two events of the evening. The hot start combined with the Lady Beavers strong depth was enough to lift DuBois to a win in the end.
On the boys' side, things weren't as close as Clearfield claimed a 121-60 win. The Bisons won 11 consecutive events to open the meet before DuBois was able to win the final event.
For the Lady Beavers, they opened up the night with a win in the 200 medley relay when Liz Felix, Anna Pfingstler, Morgan Lingle and Corney Dodd took the event in 2:11.83.
Lizz Platt continued DuBois' winning streak into the next event, the 200 freestyle, with a first place finish in 2:10.45, and Veronica Corcoran took second.
Clearfield answerd back to win the following two events before DuBois' Kayla Bishop took top honors in diving with a score of 189.40 followed by Kristen Day in second.
Other individual event winners for DuBois include Lizz Platt, who won the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:55.42. Felix also picked up a victory for DuBois in the 100 backstroke with a top time of 1:12.65.
The Lady Beavers closed out the night with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay. Corcoran, Lingle, Platt and Brenna Kreydt won the event in 3:59.79.
DuBois took second place in six overall events, including five individual ones.
Lingle was second in the 200 individual medley along with the 100 butterfly while Corcoran and Janel Jesberger was second in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, respectively.
Kreydt also gave the Lady Beavers a second and third place mark in the 50 and 100 freestyle, respectively.
Pfingstler took third in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.
The Lady Beavers took home a second and third place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.
For the boys, the Beavers' lone win was in the 400 freestyle relay.
Andrew Beck, Kaleb Bright, Patrick Seligman and Patrick Yoha led the way as they finished with a top time of 3:52.98.
Beck also had a second and third place finish in the 200 and 500 freestyle, respectively.
Alex Fisher took the Beavers' only other second place mark in the singles' events in the 100 breaststroke while Brian Maleski came in third.
DuBois had five other third-place finishes on the night in the other individual events including the 200 individual medley (Seligman), the 50 freestyle (Yoha), the 100 butterfly (Alex Fike), the 100 freestyle (Bright) and the 100 backstroke (David Urbassick).
The Beavers also took second and third place in the 200 freestyle relay, and they were second in the 400 freestyle relay as well.
DuBois is back in action on Monday when it hosts Brookville at 6 p.m.
