Mary Jewel Murray

Mary Jewel Murray, 86, Brookville, died Thursday, at McKinley Health Center, Brookville.
Born April 18, 1923 in Kuttawa, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Luther and Mary B. Cash Freeman. She was married to William Boyd Murray, who preceded her in death in 1997.
She was a member of the Hazen United Methodist Church where she was also a Sunday school teacher. She was a worthy matron of the Eastern Star in Brookville. She worked at the Register and Recorders office and the Tax Claim Office at the Brookville Courthouse for 12 years and was a volunteer at the Jefferson County Memorial Home. She enjoyed spending time with her family and making crafts.
She is survived by two sons, William Boyd Murray of Tachacpi, Calif., and Richard Wayne Murray of Brookville; two sisters, Frances Smith of Akron, Ohio and Betty Coleman of Princeton, Ky.; two brothers, Tom Freeman of Owensboro, Ky. and James Freeman of Kuttawa, Ky.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MURRAY: Mary J., Brookville, died Nov. 19, 2009. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home, Brookville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Don Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Temple Cemetery, Hazen. Memorial donations may be made to the Hazen United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.shumakerfh.com.
