DuBois, Clearfield swim teams split meet

DuBOIS - The DuBois Area High School girls swimming team won its third consecutive meet Monday evening with a 113-73 victory over Clearfield.
On the boys' side, Clearfield won, 116-67.
The Lady Beavers continued their winning ways behind a strong cast of swimmers. DuBois won the first four events and earned wins in nine of the 12 events overall, including all three relays.
Veronica Corcoran and Liz Platt picked up two wins a piece in the individual events, while Liz Felix and Morgan Lingle gave DuBois its other two wins.
Corcoran was tops in the 200 freestyle (2:11.01) and the 100 butterfly (1:12.06). Platt won the 50 and 500 freestyle's in 27.33 and 5:44.80, respectively. Lingle posted a time of 2:33.78 in the 200 IM for first place while Felix took the 100 backstroke in 1:10.90.
In the relays, DuBois claimed first and third place marks in all three events.
Felix, Anna Pfingstler, Lingle and Platt got the Lady Beavers rolling with a win in the 200 medley relay in 2:07.30.
Corcoran and Jayla Andrulonis teamed with Pfingstler and Platt in the 200 freestyle relay, and the four Lady Beavers posted the top time of 1:50.06.
In the 400 relay, the quartet of Andrulonis, Lingle, Felix and Corcoran won in 4:03.72.
Of the three events that Clearfield won, the Lady Beavers earned second and third place marks in each event. Overall, DuBois finished with five second-place finishes and nine-third place marks.
Brooklyn Ishman placed second in diving and Stacey Roy was third. In the 100 freestyle, Lingle took second followed by Emily Spicher, while Pfingstler and Courtney Dodd placed two-three in the 100 breaststroke.
Rounding out DuBois' scoring with second-places marks was Felix (200 IM) and Andrulonis (100 butterfly) while Grace Cramer added two third-place finishes in the 200 and 500 freestyle's and Pfingstler was third in the 50 freestyle.
In the boys meet, Clearfield won the first five events before DuBois' Kaleb Bright gave the Beavers their lone first place mark individually in the 100 butterfly (1:03.18).
DuBois claimed only one other first-place mark, and that was in the final event when Bright, Trevor Koscevic, David Urbassik and Josh Hayes posted a time of 3:50.98 in the 400 freestyle relay.
The Beavers finished with seven second-place marks overall and five third-place marks.
Patrick Yoha took second in the 50 and 500 freestyle's while Hayes (100 butterfly), Urbassik (100 backstroke), and Derek Weisner (100 breaststroke) gave DuBois its other three second-place finishes in the individual events.
DuBois finished second in the 200 medley relay, and the 200 freestyle relay, where the Beavers also took third as well.
Closing out the scoring with third-place marks for DuBois was Bright (200 freestyle), Weisner (200 IM), Koscevic (50 freestyle) and Alex Fike (500 freestyle).
DuBois' next meet will be on Jan. 25 at Brookville at 6 p.m.
Brookville sweeps Bradford
At Brookville, Brookville pulled off a rare sweep of visiting Bradford. The girls edged the Lady Owls, 96-88, while the boys routed the Owls, 104-50.
In the girls' meet, the win wasn't secured until the final event of the night in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Brookville outpointed Bradford, 10-4, taking first and third place to clinch the win. The foursome of Amanda Ruffner, Ashley Foulkrod, Johanna Thompson and Sarah Hetrick were victorious.
The Lady Raiders won the meet with superior depth, because they only won three other events. Jamie Hays was a double winner in the 50 and 100 freestyles while Ashley Ransel won the 100 butterfly.
For the Raiders, freshman Justin Ransel was a triple winner. He won the 50 and 100 freestyles while swimming a leg on the winning 200 medley relay with Eddie Slimak, Jaren Ananea and Noah Hetrick.
Dalton Hale won the 200 individual medley, Ryan Lingenfelter won the 500 freestyle and Nickalus Black won the diving event. The 400 freestyle relay of Leland Mowery, Lingenfelter, Black and Slimak were uncontested in its victory.
The Lady Raiders improved to 3-2 while the Raiders upped their mark to 2-2.
Both teams are back in the pool Thursday at Clearfield.
