The District 9 basketball playoff brackets were finally released Sunday afternoon and most of the sites and times for the opening round matchups have been set.

On the boys’ side, eight teams entered the Class A tournament and all but one of the quarterfinal games will be played Friday night.

On Friday, top-seeded North Clarion (19-3) takes on eighth-seeded A-C Valley (9-14) at Clarion High School at 7:30 p.m. There also will be a doubleheader that night at Bradford High School. The opener pits No. 4 Johnsonburg (16-7) vs. No. 5 Otto-Eldred, while No. 2 Elk County Catholic (19-5) battles No. 7 Oswayo Valley (11-11) in the night cap at 7:30 p.m.

The lone Class A quarterfinal on Thursday has third-seeded Cameron County (16-5) playing sixth-seeded Austin (13-9) at Port Allegany at 7 p.m.

In Class AA, seven teams have entered the mix, with top-seeded Ridgway (24-0) receiving a bye into the semifinals. All quarterfinal games will be Thursday, with the Elkers getting the winner between No. 4 Clarion-Limestone (17-6) and No. 5 Clarion (16-6) — a game being played at Clarion University at 6 p.m.

The second game at CUP Thursday has third-seeded Keystone (16-6) battling sixth-seeded Brockway (11-12) at 7:30 p.m. In the final quarterfinal contest, second-seeded Coudersport (19-3) takes on No. 7 seed Curwensville (11-11) at St. Marys at 6 p.m.

Three teams have entered the Class 3A tourney, with top-seeded Karns City (16-6) getting a bye into the finals. A date and site has yet to be set for the semifinal pitting No. 2 Brookville (13-9) vs. No. 3 Kane (8-14).

In Class 4A, two semifinal contests will be played on Wednesday on the floor of the higher seed. Top-seeded Bradford (13-8) hosts fourth-seeded Punxsutawney (11-10) and second-seeded Clearfield (13-9) entertains third-seeded St. Marys (12-10). Both games are at 7 p.m.

Switching over to the girls, the Class A tourney features nine teams — meaning a first-round game must be played Tuesday. Eighth-seeded Cameron County (10-12) hosts ninth-seeded DuBois Central Catholic (9-13) at 7 p.m. in that contest. The winner gets top-seeded North Clarion (23-0) at a site and date to be determined.

The other Class A quarterfinals will be played Wednesday. Fourth-seeded Northern Potter (17-5) plays fifth-seeded ECC (14-8) at Austin at 7 p.m., while No. 3 A-C Valley (18-4) and No. 6 Johnsonburg (10-12) tangle at Brookville at 7:30 p.m.

No site or time has been set for the matchup featured No. 2 Otto-Eldred (19-3) and No. 7 Brockway (10-12).

The Class AA bracket features six teams with a pair of quarterfinal games on Wednesday. Fourth-seeded Ridgway (12-9) takes on fifth-seeded Keystone (11-11) at Brookville at 6 p.m., with the winner facing top-seeded Kane (23-1). In the other quarter, No. 3 Cranberry (14-8) plays No. 6 Clarion (9-13) at North Clarion ay 7:30 p.m. for the right to face second-seeded Coudersport (19-3).

Brookville (17-5) earned the top seed in Class 3A and awaits the winner of a semifinal pitting No. 2 Moniteau (12-10) vs. No. 3 Karns City (11-10). No site or date is set for that game yet.

In Class 4A, No. 1 Punxsutanwey (17-5) has a bye into the finals and awaits the winner of a Thursday game that has second-seeded St. Marys (11-11) playing host to third-seeded Clearfield (8-14).
