DuBOIS — The DuBois girls tennis team improved to 3-1 on the young season with a 7-0 shutout of visiting Johnsonburg Monday at the DuBois Area High School tennis complex.

DuBois swept the four singles matches, losing just five toatl games in those four contests.

Marissa Torretti bested Ramette Elizabeth Kemick, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while teammate Alexa Zartman topped Heather Zelcs, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.

Lady Beaver Alexis Strouse blanked Maria Aiello, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, with Alexa Alker completing the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cassie Cook at fourth singles.

The best match of the day came at No. 1 doubles, where the DuBois duo of Alaina Heberling and Sarah Peters rallying to beat Kemick and Leah Orton, 9-8 (10-6).

Lady Beavers Sierra Via and Grace McVay notched an 8-3 win over Zelcs and Emily Catalano ay No. 2 doubles. Kaycee Vanchure and Lauren Milletics captured an 8-1 win at third doubles over Ramettes Anna Cristini and Madison Amacher.

“The closest match today was No. 1 doubles,” said DuBois coach Jenna Kirk. “Alaina and Sarah were down 7-4 before they won 4 straight games. It’s not easy to come back like that when you’re one game away from losing the match. They were very determined to win.

“Sierra and Grace played great as well. They’re two of the four seniors this year and have been playing doubles together since freshmen year. Kaycee and Lauren finished out the doubles with an 8-1 win. Lauren is one of our freshmen this year that has a lot of potential. I’m excited to see how she does this season.”

DuBois travels to Bradford today before turning home Thursday to play Brockway.
