DuBOIS — A rain delay wasn’t enough to slow down the DuBois boys tennis team Thursday afternoon, as the Beavers swept all four singles matches and won two of three doubles contests to defeat visiting St. Marys, 6-1.
Joe Hnat led the way for DuBois with an 8-5 win over Adam Snyder at No. 1 singles, while both Noah Knarr and Corey Giles captured their first singles wins of the season at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
Knarr pulled out a hard-fought 9-7 win over Dutchman Joey Lewis, while Giles blanked Cody Schaberl, 8-0.
Beaver Nick Troisi also snagged his third straight singles victory by defeating Zach Hart, 8-1, at No. 4.
In doubles action, the DuBois duo of Knarr and Giles collected their second wins of the day by besting Schaberl and Hart, 8-6, at No. 2.
DuBois also notched a victory at No. 3 doubles, where Paul Brittain and Jimmy Oberlin topped Mike Rusciolelli and Kyle Gardner, 8-2.
“All of the kids played great today,” said DuBois coach Jenna Kirk. “Corey and Noah got their first singles wins of the season and then teamed up to win their doubles match. They’ve both shown so much improvement since the beginning of the season.”
St. Marys got its lone win at No. 1 doubles, with Snyder and Lewis teaming up to pull out a tight 9-8 (7-4) tiebreaker win over Hnat and Zach Jaggi.
DuBois is back in action today against DuBois Central Catholic at City Park, while St. Marys travels to Johnsonburg on Tuesday.
