HERSHEY — When the dust settled Saturday night in Altoona, the DuBois wrestling team pushed just two wrestlers through the PIAA Class AAA Wrestling Championships.

However, that pair — senior Kolby Ho (145) and sophomore Ed Scott (126) — both captured regional titles this weekend and are primed to make a deep run in Hershey in hopes of landing on the podium inside the Giant Center.

Scott (33-2), a two-time regional champ, is one of five returning state medalists in the field at 126 that also features seven previous state qualifiers. Scott finished third at 113 last year as a freshman.

He landed in the bottom half of the bracket and awaits the winner of a pigtail match between Owen J. Roberts’ Connor Quinn (Southeast No. 5, 34-8) and Greater Latrobe’s Gabe Willochell (Southwest No. 3, 32-6).

If Scott wins his opener, he’ll face another Parkland’s Nick Dolak (Northeast No. 2, 21-7) or Downingtown East’s Lukas Ritchie (Southeast No. 2), both of whom have state experience.

Also in the bottom half is three-time state medalist Chris Wright (45-1), a senior from Central Dauphin who is the Southcentral Regional champ. Wright was fourth at 120 last year and previously was seventh as a freshman and fourth as a sophomore.

The top half at 126 is headlined by a trio of state medalists. North Hills sophomore Sam Hillegas (29-1), a returning state champ at 113, sits at the top of the bracket.

Spring Grove senior Dalton Rohrbaugh, (Southcentral No. 2, 40-2), a two-time medalist, and Northeast champ Kenny Herrmann (29-10) of Bethlehem Catholic, who was seventh a year ago, also are in the top half.

Ho (32-4) heads to Hershey in search of first state medal in his third trip to the Giant Center. Like Scott, Ho landed in the bottom of the draw where he will face either Neshaminy’s Jackson Erb (Southeast No. 5, 35-3) or Scranton’s Jeremiah Oakes (Northeast No. 3, 38-6).

A win in the opener could give Ho a second-round meeting with another three-time state qualifier in Penn-Trafford senior Jobe Chishko (Southwest No. 2, 34-7).

The only other regional champ in the bottom half is Northern York senior Micah Hoffman (34-3), another three-time qualifier from the Southcentral region.

The top half of the field at 145 is headlined by returning 138-pound state champ Sammy Sasso (34-1), a senior from Nazareth who is the Northeast Regional champ. Sasso is a three-time medalist who was a state runner-up as a freshman and a third-place finisher his sophomore year.

The top also features another pair of regional champs in Kiski Area junior Cam Conner (Southwest, 37-5) and Pope John Paul II junior Ryan Vulakh (Southeast, 27-4). Vulakh placed eighth two years ago.

The PIAA Class AAA Championships get underway Thursday at 4 p.m.
