MILWAUKEE (AP) — Heather Bergsma won the 1,000 meters at the U.S. speedskating trials, with Brittany Bowe finishing second to join her longtime rival on the Olympic team.

Bergsma was timed in 1 minute, 14.82 seconds Wednesday night to make her third Olympic team. She has yet to win a medal.

Bowe was clocked in 1:15.52. The former college basketball point guard was eighth in the 1,000 four years ago in Sochi.

Mia Manganello finished third at 1:18.23, but she has yet to meet the Olympic qualifying time of 1:18.00. She would need to achieve the time by Jan. 14 at an International Skating Union-sanctioned event in order to compete in South Korea.

Manganello will skate the 1,000 in an ISU meet in high-altitude Salt Lake City on Jan. 13. Her personal best in the event is 1:16.30.
