LUMBER CITY — The Allegheny Mountain League started off the season with a meet at Eagles Ridge Golf Course on Monday afternoon, just before one of the rare occurrences in the world of yesterday’s solar eclipse.

All of the schools seem to have small rosters for the 2017 season for the early-going, but still have some returnees from the 2016 season.

DuBois had just one golfer participate on Monday, but still have a couple more on the roster that were absent for the opening round. Brookville and Brockway both have five on the roster, while Ridgway has four and Curwensville had six in their homestanding opening meet. Punxsutawney had a full roster present.

DuBois freshman Maddie Gray was the lone Lady Beaver to participate in the event as she finished her first varsity meet with a 78. DuBois could not score as a team for the event. Senior Lexi Wray and freshman Maria Werner are also on the roster.

It was the Lady Chucks that impressed on the day as they carded a 203 to open the season. Toya Jones led the way for all golfers with a 49 on the round, while Aleya Shaffer and Brianna Hoover each shot a 51. Kylee Shumaker (52) was a shot behind Shaffer and Hoover to round out the action for Punxsy.

Brookville shot a team total 274 for the day. Bailey Ganoe recorded the fifth best score of the day with a 54. Jenna Grant followed with a 67, while Sophie Sharp (71) and Rylee Kelly (82) followed. Regan Ganoe also played for Brookville and ended the day with an 88.

Laney Gilmore led the way for Ridgway, which scored a 287 for the afternoon. Gilmore carded a 65 on the round, while Jordan Reitz finished with a 72. Elizabeth Bonini and Nora McGuire both shot a 75 to round out the Lady Elker lineup.

For Curwensville, Katie Hartman scored a 56 to lead the Lady Tide on their home course. Karter Bell shot a 75, while Mikayla Pizzutto and Lauren Tozer each carded an 81.
