BROCKPORT — Ridgway’s Greg Simon and Zack Zameroski helped the Ridgway boys golf team in a big way on Wednesday afternoon, leading the Elkers to a 185-254 win over Brockway at Owens-Brockway Golf Course.

Simon led the way for the Elkers, getting the low medalist of the day with a 42 for nine holes. Zameroski was just a stroke behind Simon with a 43.

The win gave Ridgway a 2-0 start to the year after beating Brookville last Thursday. The Elkers also came in third place in the Bavarian Hills Invitational on Monday.

Brockway (0-2) opened their season on Tuesday with a loss to DuBois before the match with Ridgway on Wednesday.

Matt Holt led the Rovers out of the No. 2 spot with a 60.

Evan Johnson also joined Simon and Zameroski with a score in the 40s for Ridgway, ending the day with a 48. Luke Tomaski also scored for Ridgway as he finished with a 52.

Eric Christoff (54) and Nolan Shaffer (64) also played for the Elkers.

Brockway played with just five players on the day instead of the usual six. After Holt’s 60, Derek Bennett followed out of the No. 1 hole with a 62. Lance Dowdall was next with a 64, while Devin Velez shot a 68. Cliff Kinser carded a 72 out of the No. 5 spot for the Rovers.

Boys teams are back in action today. Brockway visits DuBois Central Catholic for a 10 a.m. start, while Ridgway hosts St. Marys at 3:30 p.m.

BRADFORD 230,

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 237

BRADFORD — The Elk County Catholic boys golf team had five golfers break 50, but fell by seven strokes to Bradford, 230-237, on Wednesday.

Brady Schneider paced the Crusaders out of the No. 1 spot with a 45, while No. 6 golfer Ross Martin scored a 47. Nos. 2 and 3 Ryan Newton and Tyler Wehler each shot a 48, while No. 7 Alec Wehler carded a 49. Mark Kraus (55), Nick Daghir (55), and Nathan Roberts (57) also played for Elk County Catholic.

Brice Whelan and Joey Frigo led the Owls with a 44 out of the top two spots, while Joe Gorse (46), Thomas Anderson (48) and AJ Gorse (48) also had scores count for Bradford. Hunter Fox (50), Jared Asteri (52) and Shane Peterson (57) also played for Bradford.

The Crusaders are back in action on Monday as they travel to Kane.
