JOHNSTOWN — The Tri-County area had 36 wrestlers compete at the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Junior High State Championships at the Cambria County War Memorial over the weekend.
Seven wrestlers placed at the championships, including one champion.
DuBois Central Catholic’s Kolby Franklin was the lone champion from the area, winning the 212-pound bracket.
Franklin started his tournament with a 20-4 technical fall in 2:38 over Montoursville’s Maddix Dalena before putting together another technical fall in the round of 16 over Washington’s Cameron Carter-Green, 21-5, in 3:29.
Franklin then had two straight decisions over Eisenhower’s Cael Black (9-3) in the quarterfinals and Oil City’s Brayden Crocker (5-2) in the semifinals. Franklin completed his championship run with another technical fall over Trinity’s Ty Banco, 17-2, in 2:43.
Clearfield had four placewinners in Mark McGonigal (140, 4th place), Oliver Billotte (187, 4th place), Nolan Barr (107, 8th place), and Nick Domico (187, 8th place).
Brockway’s Dustin Flinn (147, 6th place) and Johnsonburg’s Aiden Zimmerman (140, 6th place) were the other two placewinners from the area.
Also competing in the tournament from the area were DuBois’ Brendan Orr (87), Braxton Adams (112), and Ryan Gildersleeve (117), Brockway’s Conner Ryckman (124), Jared Fremer (157), Weston Smith (212) and Gavin Thompson (252), Brookville’s Brayden Kunselman (92) and Bryce Rafferty (157), Clearfield’s Evan Davis (77), Karson Kline (107), Luke Freeland (124) and Hayden Kovalick (167), Curwensville’s Jacob Carfley (82), Spencer Hoover (102), Nikolas Fegert (107), Andrew Freyer (132), Duane Brady (157) and Matthew Brown (252), St. Marys’ Lane Dellaquilla (87), Logan Mosier (102), Nolan Fenton (112), Beau Azzato (140) and Alex Lukaschunis (187), Ridgway’s Tyler Merritt (117), Johnsonburg’s Camron Marciniak (147), Clarion’s Owen Reinsel (97) and Kaoz Baker (212), and Redbank Valley’s Dalton Bish (117).
