NORTH BUFFALO TWP. – Details remained sketchy this week regarding the shooting death of a New Bethlehem man that took place Saturday night near Worthington.

State police said that David Lee Claypool, 49, was shot and killed at approximately 9 p.m. on April 7 outside a home at 400 Sisterville Road in North Buffalo Township.

While police said there was a known suspect in the case, no charges were filed and no additional information was released as of press time.

Armstrong County Coroner Brian K. Myers said on Sunday that Claypool, who lived in Armstrong County, died of a gunshot wound to his abdomen at his sister’s residence. In his obituary, the sister is named as Gloria Cravenor.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner, and an autopsy was performed.

“The manner of death is still pending,” Myers said.

He added that the investigation is still ongoing by the county district attorney’s office, state police and the coroner’s office.

According to a brief obituary, Claypool was the son of Glenn and Fanta Claypool, and is survived by two sons, Austin Laura and David Lee Claypool Jr. The obituary states that he worked as a machinist.

Funeral arrangements are being handed by the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home in Worthington.
