Well, here we are. Another Christmas. For most of us, it is a great time of the year. Sadly, however, that is not the case for all of us.
A number of years ago, Bill O’Reilly made reference to a war on Christmas. O’Reilly, of course, is a blowhard who thinks of himself as a historian, but he had a good point about Christmas. Some colleges are now declaring themselves “Christmas free campuses.” Nativity sets are prohibited in a lot of places. One idiotic professor has even claimed that “Jingle Bells” is a racist song. When will it stop, if ever?
Who is to blame for all of this? It is not Islamic extremists. It is not Donald Trump. It is not the Democratic or Republican parties. It is not, in fact, any major religion. The blame must be placed squarely on the shoulders of the radical Left in America. They are following the philosophy of Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin, both of whom were opposed to religion, and favored, instead, state atheism. If anyone has any doubts about the goal of the Left being the establishment of Communism in America, the attacks on Christmas should erase them. These people have evil in their hearts.
And how about all of the sexual harassment scandals? Sexual harassment is one of those things without an absolutely clear definition, which makes it extra hard to deal with in a proper way. Women are accusing men, men are accusing women, men are accusing men and women are accusing women. It is turning into a madhouse.
Don’t get me wrong. Nobody should be made to feel uncomfortable or threatened because of their gender or sexual orientation. There must, however, be a clear definition as to what is, and is not, harassment. Some things are, of course, quite obvious, but others are subtle to the point of being unrecognizable. If a man tells a woman that she looks nice today, is that harassment?
Further, there should be a time limit on filing complaints. For someone to say that they were sexually harassed 40 or so years ago, and are just now coming forward, tests the limits of believability. It is enough to make one afraid of working with someone of the opposite gender, or sexual orientation in the workplace. We should not become a nation of people who are afraid.
Freedom of religion seems to have become an issue this year. We are still awaiting a Supreme Court ruling on the wedding cake issue. One cannot help but wonder if this is a setup by the Left. They do, after all, want to eliminate religion from society. Nobody should be forced to violate their conscience.
Then, of course, we have the NFL National Anthem protests. I find them disgusting. I am especially disappointed in the Steelers, who chose to hide in the locker room during the playing of the Anthem. It was both unpatriotic and cowardly. Hopefully the NFL will finally come around although, with Roger Goodell at its head, that seems to be very unlikely.
It is my sincere hope that the Christian denominations keep celebrating Christmas. After all, we all worship the same God and accept the same Savior. Let’s celebrate without any denigration of our non-Christian friends. This is one of those rare times when we should all be happy.
In closing, I would like to wish all readers out there a Blessed and Merry Christmas, or happiness on whatever holiday you happen to celebrate at this special time of year.
Oops! I almost forgot. Be sure to have a Happy New Year. Stay safe.
