We are writing to thank everyone who helped with the youth pheasant hunt sponsored by the Hawthorn Rod and Gun Club on Oct. 7. We could not have asked for a better day for our young hunters. The weather was perfect.

We had a total of 16 hunters participate in our second annual hunt. Some of them found out why they call it hunting and not shooting., but I truly believe that each and every one of them had a great time. These young hunters got a small taste of what it is like to hunt with a field dog. Most had never had that opportunity before. The parents and mentors of this fine group can be very proud. They were attentive, respectful and eager. It was an awesome group.

We would especially like to thank all of our dog handlers. They came from as far away as Leechburg, Pittsburgh and Erie. And from locally as well. We could not have done this without them. Their dogs were remarkable, and we say “Thank You” and hope to see them next year.

Also, we would like to thank some generous people for other donations to our hunt, including: Subway of New Bethlehem, Clarion County Rod and Gun Club, Clarion County Federation of Sportsmen Club, John Brooks and Mahoning Valley Milling. And, of course, thank you to the members, officers and wives of the Hawthorn Rod and Gun Club. We could not have done this without you.

If you did not get a chance to participate this year, hopefully you will be able to attend next year, so mark your calendar for the first Saturday in October. We hope to see you there!
