When you think about Veterans Day, what comes to mind? War heroes, battlefields, glory, strife, sacrifice? There are so many things that come to mind we could never list them all.

For us at the New Bethlehem branch of S&T Bank, we swell with pride knowing that so many of our neighbors, family, friends and customers are among these Hometown Heroes.

So, in order to show our appreciation for those those who have given so much of themselves to enrich our lives, we will be having our third annual Hometown Hero Appreciation Day at our branch on Thursday, Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each and every one of our local veterans, and active duty community members, are welcome to participate in the celebration. You do not need to be a S&T customer to participate.

We will again feature our local Wall of Fame which is a huge display of pictures of our local military members, both active and inactive. We are offering an open invitation to all of you that are not yet a member of our Wall of Fame: We encourage you to come see us. We will be honored to add you.

The coloring contest has returned again this year. We had such an overwhelming number of entries last year, and so many comments that we have brought it back. The winner will be drawn at random, not by talent, for a Burger King certificate. Last year we had over 400 entries. Our branch was decorated from ceiling to floor, window to window with artwork from our area students showing their pride and support for our veterans. Please, come see this awesome display. It will touch your heart.

State Rep. Donna Oberlander will also be on hand in the afternoon to award one of our lucky local military members with an American flag that she has graciously donated. Also, we will have an active member of the Army National Guard on hand at 3 p.m. so that students may stop after school to meet, talk with and get their pictures taken with an active military figure.

If you would like to express your thanks to any branch of our military, this will be the perfect opportunity. If you would like your children to see first-hand what the military means in our way of life, this is the perfect opportunity. We sincerely hope that each and every one of you will come out and show your support for our local military and their families.
