COOKSBURG – The Footlighters of Elk County will make their debut at the Verna Leith Sawmill Theatre in Cook Forest on Aug. 17-19 with, “Leaving Iowa,” a show about the iconic family road trip. Shows begin at 8 p.m. each night.
“Leaving Iowa” tells the story of Don Browning, a middle-aged writer, who sets out for his father’s hometown to take his ashes to his childhood home. When Don discovers his grandparents’ house is now a grocery store, he begins traveling across Iowa searching for a proper final resting place. With Don’s son along for the ride, the road trip shifts from the present to Don’s memories of his torturous childhood vacations. The existential journey leads Don to reconcile his past and present at the center of the United States.
