ADRAIN – Mary Wolfgang Barnette, formerly of Brookville and New Bethlehem, will celebrate her 100th birthday on Sunday, February 11.

She was born in St. Charles, in the New Bethlehem area, to James and Alma Hamilton.

Mrs. Barnette is the oldest and only surviving member of her immediate family.

She married Albert Wolfgang in November 1939; he died from cancer in 1948.

They had three daughters: Jane, Lois and Ruth Ann. Lois died September 5, 2016, from a heart attack.

In 1955 she married Sam Barnette from the New Bethlehem area. He died in 1963 in an automobile accident.

Mrs. Barnette retired from Brookville Hospital, where she worked for 45 years as an OB/maternity registered nurse.

She is also well known for making baby blankets (quilts). Her hobbies include reading, crocheting, quilting and sewing.

Along with her surviving two daughters, Mrs. Barnette’s family includes eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, with another due in September.

To celebrate the occassion, her family will hold an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 10 at the Limestone-Reesedale Church of God, 115 Brown Road in Adrian.
